Technology and Change
Technology often gets talked about at a purely systems level. What kind of technology solution is needed? How will we integrate it with existing systems and processes? Who can support installation and implementation? What about training needs? And so on. Culture comes later on. Yet technology change is culture change, plain and simple. That's because technology introduces a whole new way of working. And changing the way people work demands changes in employees' mindset. For example, how will automating production processes affect the way we serve our costumers? How will it affect our ability to communicate and collaborate?
Making the Transition to Automation
Automation is about more than technology. It's about changing the way people see, perform, collaborate, communicate, and manage the work they do everyday. It's the same with any new technology: digitalization, IoT, CRM, RPA, BPM, AI, and so on. Such change ultimately affects how and whether people truly adopt the new technology, whether the company is upgrading existing technology or transitioning away from legacy manufacturing systems. Yet automation and digital transformation also offer a tremendous opportunity for a company to re-think its vision, values, strategic goals, and how it organizes employees and their work.
